CT-4A & CT-4B Airtrainer
Contracted RAAF Ab-Initio Training 1991 to Current
Australian Defence Force Basic Flying Training
School (BFTS)
|
|
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
After
the withdrawal from service of the CT-4A Airtrainer the
RAAF effectively ceased ab-initio pilot training. The BAe/
Ansett Flying (later BAE Systems) college in Tamworth, NSW
was contracted to provide the RAAF with initial pilot
selection and basic training . In yet another somewhat
ironic twist in the Airtrainer's history the CT-4B was
selected as the most suitable type for the job and in 1991
the production line was re-opened. The initial batch of 12
new build aircraft delivered in 1991/92 was supplemented
by a purchase of a further 14 ex-RNZAF aircraft delivered
in 1999. A further 4 ex-civilian Warbird aircraft were
purchased in 2011. These are listed below under their
civil registrations VH-DAP/A19-047, VH-PGH/A19-059,
VH-YNZ/NZ1933 (exVH-CTZ) and VH-ZCT/A19-058

Lynette Zuccoli's Aerotec has
operated a couple of CT-4s. Both carried the
same civil registration number.
The first VH-CTZ was an ex-RNZAF CT-4B
NZ1933 (C/N 081) which is now with BAE
Systems as VH-YNZ
(see above).
This was replaced by CT-4E (C/N 216)
originally destined for the Royal Thai Air Force but never
delivered.
This also carries the civil registration
VH-CTZ. (This is
included here for reference only).
