The L serialled Battles were the most numerous in RAAF service with 185 allotted from the RAF and 183 delivered comprising Mk.I and TT.1 airframes. Two airframes allotted to the RAAF (L5696 & L5698) in the UK and dispatched from 47 MU (RAF Sealand) on on 18/10/1940 and records end at that point. They are presumed to have been lost in transit.

They all came from a batch of 863 Fairey Battle delivered by Austin, Longbridge between October 1938 and August 1940 with RAF serials L4935 to L5597 which were completed as Mk I's and L5598 to L5797 which were completed as Battle T.T. airframes.

All RAF histories have been added for these airframes, but I still have a lot of work to do to complete the RAAF histories for the aircraft on this page!

Aircraft Serial Model History
L2166   Some sources quote L2166 as an RAAF Battle.
This is understandable as the status card for N2166 is incorrectly marked as "L2166" which was actually a serial allocated to an RAF Short Sunderland I.
